Foodie Friday: You'll Scream For This Ice Cream

Sunday is National Ice Cream Day. So today's post is all about ....you guessed it....ice cream! We did an Ice Cream Sundae Bar on the 4th of July. It was a big hit. Any type of participartory mealtime event is always fun for a crowd.  Going out for ice cream is a fun summer tradition. After perusing this post, you just may want to stay in.

Pina Colada Nice Cream
This is another no churn frozen dessert with a banana base. Add some coconut cream and coconut rum, and you have a boozy summer treat.

Lavender Honey Ice Cream
How appealing, right? This recipe calls for making a custard...old school. But the steps just might be worth it. You'll need some culinary lavender. I sourced it for you at Amazon.

No Churn Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream
Have you noticed how good strawberries are this summer? They are expensive, too. At the Farmer's Market organic strawberries were $12! But they were the best strawberries I ever had. This recipe calls for store bought cheesecake. And that's such a step saver.

Ice Cream Sundae Flute Glass
Serve your homemade creations with style. Let's face it, ice cream cones are messy, but these glass cones are both chic and mess free.
Anthropologie

Coconut Sorbet
I grew up on homemade coconut ice cream, but I never had it made in a sorbet. It sounds so light and refreshing. The best is that it can be made in a blender or ice cream maker.

No Churn Chocolate Bar Ice Cream
I'll be trying this on very soon. The perfect chocolate fix!

GreenPan Frost Frozen Drink & Ice Cream Maker
This electric ice cream maker is so new it's not quite in stock yet. Pre-order it now while it is on sale. Available in four colors. Will ship by mid August,

Peanut Butter Swirled Chocolate Fudge Popsicles
Here is your new HEALTHY way to get a chocolate fix. It's made with dates, bananas, coconut milk, raw granola, cocoa powder, and creamy peanut butter. It's all made in a blender. I have linked you up to all kinds of popsicle molds at amazon.

No Churn Southern Banana Pudding Ice Cream
The ingredients include cream cheese and vanilla wafers. What a delight this must be.
Dash of Jazz

No Churn Pistachio Ice Cream
The recipe calls for pistachio paste. I am sure that this concentrated paste gives the green coloring and dreamy flavoring.YUM!

Eve Coupe Dessert Glass
This is an elegant way to serve ice cream or any dessert. It's lovely for $10.

No Churn Peach Cobbler Ice Cream
Oh this takes me back to my mom's peach ice cream.  And though she just made straight peach ice cream, she would serve it over homemade peach cobbler. Kind of the same, and just delicious.

No Churn Coffee Cookie Dough Ice Cream
Vegan & Gluten Free
The author says it best: "This cookie dough ice cream is so rich and creamy, flavored with coffee, gluten free cookie dough, and a smooth fudge swirl"  This ice cream is a dream for those with food issues.

Whynter Ice Cream Maker Machine
This maker with a built in compressor is one of Food & Wine's top picks. No need to pre-freeze a bulky bowl or canister. It makes, ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet in 30 to 60 minues. Now 24% off.

Oreo Mud Pie
Coffee & Chocolate Ice Cream, rich fudge, and Oreos? There's nothing not to like here. This must be one killer dessert.

Show Stopping Sides For Thanksgiving

The "Shop This" household could easily skip the turkey and feast on starters, sides, and desserts. This year, since it is just the two of us, we may do that. This roundup features classic dishes with a twist.  I personally think that life is too short to prepare boring food. So get ready to mull your wine, candy some bacon, and mash the squash.
Get inspired!

Mulled Wine Cranberry Sauce
I begin with my favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table. Some kind of liquor is always present in mine, but I have not tried wine. It does sound like a match made in heaven, though. It's said to be both sweet and tart. Yum!

Maple Roasted Rainbow Carrots With Walnuts and Feta
I am always fascinated by these colorful carrots. They are almost too pretty to cook. Did you know that each color of rainbow carrot provides a different nutrient for your body?  Click the link to read more. But safe to say that this might be the healthiest dish on the table.

Pumpkin and Potato Gratins With Gruyere and Sage
Sage is my favorite word and ingredient for Fall and Thanksgiving. I go through quite a bit of the fresh herb each Thanksgiving. The cheese is nutty and strong, but not overpowering at all.
Something different!

Pumpkin Bread Stuffing With Candied Bacon & Pecans
A bit untraditional because of the sweet aspect of this dressing. Why not try something new? Here's a reason to delve deeper,  there is rum involved!

Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes
Here's a tangy twist on the classic mashed. These would be a hit here!

Baguette, Smoked Oyster, and Pancetta Stuffing
I would love to make this dish, but Mr. Shop This does not do oysters.  (Imagine that?) Anyway, this stuffing gets a dash or two of Cognac before baking.
Yes Please!

Chipotle Cranberry Chutney
This cranberry chutney features a little kick and a touch of heat that works so well with the sweet. P.S. the darling ruffled MacKenzie Childs dish can be found HERE

Mashed Butternut Squash With Goat Cheese & Rosemary
What a festive and colorful alternative to mashed potatoes! Or serve both.

Brussels Sprouts With Glazed Pancetta and Pecan
What a tasty trio of ingredients! When I really want to create a brussels sprout dish, this is how I do it. It's beyond delicious!

Slow Cooker Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes
These look perfect, don't they? Fresh garlic always gives potatoes a depth of flavor. How nice not to have to deal with your potatoes at the last minute. The slow cooker makes so much sense!

Savory Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Parmesan, Garlic & Herbs
Perfect for those who prefer their sweet potatoes more savory than sweet.

Green Bean Bundles With Bacon & Brown Sugar
What about skipping the green bean casserole this year and trying these beautiful bundles? Truth be told, I have never made green bean casserole. But these I would think about serving!
Williams Sonoma

Sage, Buttermilk and Bacon Biscuits
Anything with sage has a place on my Thanksgiving table. What a winning combination of flavors!

Pumpkin Walnut Sage Risotto
{ Vegan }
Serve the unexpected, and switch out dressing or potatoes for this dish. Doesn't this look delish? And from start to finish it only takes 30 minutes.
Heather Christo

Crispy Roasted Potatoes with Thyme
Crispy, buttery, and aromatic. No wonder that this dish is one of Williams Sonoma's most popular recipes of all time!

Rosemary-Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes
The pecans for this creamy concoction have been spiced and roasted, giving these sweets a
crunchy twist.

Cheesy Sausage & Sage Stuffing
Melted gooey cheese in your stuffing? I never thought about it, but it looks fab. This dish falls between a strata, a gratin, and the traditional dressing. Maybe it will become a new  family favorite.

Pumpkin Bread Rolls
How cute are these? The kids will love them, and the adults will be impressed.

Back To Baking: Bakers Tools & Recipes

This photo of Tieghan Gerard, one of my favorite foodies, made me feel like baking today. She is one of the best. Scroll down to see her recipe for Salted Pretzel Chocolate Chip Cookie Snickers Bars. Or click here to shop her baking edit on Etsy.  Today's post is just filled with sweet Fall flavors including a couple of Vegan & GF recipes. Join me this weekend and get back to baking!

Apple Cider Donut Bundt Cake
Doesn't this just scream Fall? The recipe is said to make an incredibly tender, moist, buttery, and spiced to perfection cake.

Salted Pretzel Chocolate Chip Cookie Snickers Bars
This is only the second recipe I found for this roundup, but I think I have found my favorite. I mean, is there anything better than something that is both sweet and salty?
Half Baked Harvest

Salted Caramel Apple Pie
The classic apple pie gets a modern update with the addition of salted caramel sauce. It is a yummy addition, that I add to each apple pie of mine.

Emile Henry Pie Dish
Master pie baking with these colorful dishes. The ruffle edges are perfect for stylizing your crust. Now on sale at

Cinnamon Swirl Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread
Tieghan, the recipe author says that this yummy bread is best served warm with a healthy slather of salted butter. I second that motion!

Brown Butter Apple Blondies
It's my experience that brown butter changes everything! Don't think twice about the use of two sticks of butter. These are worth it.

Williams Sonoma Bakeware
Not sure about yours, but my bakeware has been well used, or shall I say over used? I would just love to own this set in gold! It's now on sale at

Gluten Free Apple Cake With Brown Butter & Hazlenut
I happen to think that everything made in a heavy cast iron pan, is better. This is a show stopping dessert that anyone would enjoy.

Fudgy Caramel Brownies
Ooey, gooey and super fudgy! This is my type of sweet. And for those of you who are not bakers, the base of this recipe is a brownie mix!
Cake Whiz

Espresso Chocolate Chunk Scones
Made with freshly brewed espresso and topped with a heavenly maple butter glaze, who wouldn't want to start their day with these?

Wolf Counter Top Oven
This time of year with the holidays approaching, an extra oven really does come in handy.
This is a beauty!

Chocolate Stuffed Baked Pears
With Phyllo Dough
What an impressive dessert! The recipe calls for Williams pears due to their natural sweetness. That chocolate just puts this dessert over the top.

Baileys Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes
My first thought is I don't care what the cupcake tastes like, because that frosting is drool worthy! But by the way, the cupcake is pumpkin and said to be super moist.
The Cake Blog

Salted Chocolate Chunk Pumpkin Cookies Gluten Free & Vegan
Heather states that in the seven years she has been baking vegan and GF, these are the absolute best cookies ever. That says a lot! This recipe calls for "sunflower butter" and Bob's Red Mill flour.  Sounds fab!

Silpat Reusable Silicone Baking Molds
I love my Silpat Baking Sheet liner.  And these look like they would be so very helpful for many uses.
Food52

Pumpkin Skillet Cobbler
This unique dessert is warm and soft and wonderful. The base is a pumpkin custard. So if you can make pumpkin pie, you can make this.

Overnight Caramel Apple French Toast
Caramel and apples are such a delicious duo. The best part of this recipe is that it can be made up the night before. YUM!

Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl
If you enjoy mixing things up a bit, you will love this bowl.  I love my stainless mixing bowls, but they don't have bells and whistles like this one. Loving the silicone handles and that base is everything!
