Back To Baking: The Sweet & The Savory

{ Via: Etsy }

Fall's crisp days and longer nights are all the reasons we need to get back to baking. Turn up the heat of your oven, and give one of these sweet or savory recipes a try. A few bakers tools have been added to the mix. Think warm spices, brandied apples, Le Creuset (on sale) quiche and more.

Pumpkin Creme Brulee
Of all the baking I have done over the years, I have never made Creme Brulee. What's wrong with me? It may be because I do not have a torch to toast the sugar topping. Look below where we both can get one.

Creme Brulee Set
I found this to be a great value. You get everything you see. It's all you need to make the above recipe. Or you can just buy the torch HERE for $20 less.

Caramel Apple Cake
Autumn on a plate. This stunning cake is actually said to be very easy to make. It only takes 20 minutes of prep time. The icing on this cake is a heaping serving of brandy apple caramel sauce.

Pumpkin Bread with Cream Cheese Swirl
Well, isn't this a work of art? This five star recipe is baked in the prettiest loaf pan. You can find the pan on sale at Sur La Table. The recipe looks easy enough, but I would double the amount of that cream cheese swirl.

Cook With Color Mixing Bowl Set
A very modern way to mix. Love that these 6 prep bowls come with lids! They come in 20 colors to match the mood of every kitchen. A great buy at $22.99. Most importantly, they are BPA free.

Shortcut Easy Apple Fritters
I have said it before. This household loves an apple fritter, and haven't had a good one since we moved. These look promising using puff pastry. I think we can do this!

Pecan Pie Cheesecake
Nothing is much better than pecan pie to me, except maybe this.  Might want to try it before Thanksgiving.

~ The Savory ~

Savory Monkey Bread
I have always heard of Monkey Bread, but I have never had it or attempted to make it. But thanks to refrigerated biscuits, it looks sinfully easy to make.

Baked Ziti
Just the name of this dish makes me think of The Sopranos. The beauty of this dish is that everyone will love it. It can be adapted any way you wish, add meat or sausage, use only veggies, etc.

Thyme & Cheddar Cheese Cookies
Just what your next Charcuterie or Cheese Board needs! Impress your guests when they ask where you got the crackers. I am going to give these a try.
The Flavor Bender

Spinach & Goat Cheese Quiche with Sweet Potato Crust
{ Gluten Free }
Easy to make and bangn' { the author's words } with flavor. I think that the sweet potato crust is genius and nutritious.

Le Creuset Heritage Pie Dish
Love that the inside of the pan is rich in color, too. Pick a shade to match your kitchen, and don't think twice. I'll take the "oyster" or "flame" On sale at.....
Le Creuset (17 Colors ) or Sur La Table ( 9 Colors )

Caramelized Onion and Apple Tart
Here we have the sweet and the savory. Delicious as a dinner with a salad. I would serve it as a yummy appetizer.

Foodie Friday: Spotlight On Apples

Apple picking season in The Hudson Valley comes to an end at the end of this month. So it's time to get picking or at least visiting your Farmer's Market for some fresh apples. Here's inspiration for what to do with them. Enjoy!

Fall Fruit Baked Goat & Brie En Croute
An impressive and fabulous fall appetizer.Easy to make and delicious, too! This is a crowd pleasing dish.

Smoky Harvest Apple Cider Margarita
Fall in a glass. The drink is rimmed in salty cinnamon sugar. How clever! It's made with smoky Mezcal, which makes a really special margarita. Oh and there is maple syrup involved. The smoke effect comes from lighting a cinnamon stick on fire!

Tart Tatin
This is for Sara, who loves this dish. It is a beautiful way to eat apples. It begins with "made from scratch" puff pastry. I would be tempted to use the frozen sheets, however. Yum!

Savory Apple Thyme Tart
Oh this just sounds so fabulous for fall! Slice it up for an amazing appetizer. Or serve it with a side salad as lunch or dinner. I can just imagine how it smells as it is baking.
Apple Cake With Toffee Crust
This recipe had me at the word toffee. I make homemade caramel sauce often, but never have tried toffee sauce. Looks easy, and you can tell by looking at the cake that it is moist.

Caramelized Onion Apple Mac and Cheese
Panko bread crumbs, and finishing this dish in the oven makes it extra crispy. One of the cheeses used in this recipe is Gouda, which is a must in my kitchen! This really sounds divine!

Apple Cream Cheese Bundt Cake
I am not normally a fan of bundt cake - not enough frosting! But between the praline frosting and the cream cheese filling in this case, I think my sweet tooth will be happy.

Waldorf Salad
This version of the classic salad your Mom or Grandma made is bursting with fresh flavor and fruit. What make it different is using Greek Yogurt instead of mayonnaise. There is a bright freshness to the dressing with hints of lemon and corriander.  Worth a try!
Feasting at Home

Salted Apple Fritters
See that apple above? It's a Honeycrisp and they are simply the best at this time of year. One of the things I miss the most about leaving Chicago, is the apple fritters at Stan's Donuts. And I mean I really miss them. These fritters promise to be sweet and salty with a crispy exterior, but soft and gooey on the inside. I may faint.

Apple, Sage, and Prosciutto Stuffed Pork Loin
Oh what a main dish! I do believe that my fave fall flavor is sage. I can almost smell this roast cooking. There is spinach involved in the recipe too, and of course a bit of garlic. Wow!

Caramel Apple Dip
The base of this dip is slightly sweetened cream cheese. Then it is layered with homemade caramel sauce and toffee bits. This will be a hit at your next tailgate or cocktail party. Serve it with apples, pears, graham crackers  and more!

Apple, Caramelized Onion and Spinach Quesadilla
This is a great party appetizer with all the flavors of fall. It's made with fontina cheese, because it melts so well.vLooks fun to serve and eat!
Favorite Apple Pie Recipe
I chose to feature the slice of this pie instead of a whole pie picture. Why? Because it is just the right color on the inside. If your pie doesn't look like this, you don't have enough cinnamon and nutmeg in it. A touch of lemon is crucial, too. It keeps the flavors bright and the apples true to color. Perfection!

Caramelized Onion and Apple Tarts
If you want to serve something as French as can be, this is it. It's a sophisticated appetizer that is easy to make but impressive to the taste buds. The Gruyère cheese elevates each bite.

"Chocolatey cake with brown sugar buttercream infused with bourbon and pecans." Need I say more?

Pumpkin Fudge Brownies
With a fudgy layer of chocolate on the bottom and a silky layer of pumpkin on top, these will be fall favorites. To keep them rich and gooey, cream cheese is involved.

Caramel Apple Mug Cake
The perfect sugar fix when you think you have nothing sweet in the house. This recipe features pantry ready ingredients that you most likely have on hand. Then it is baked in the microwave and ready in minutes. Easy Peasy.

Salted Chocolate Chunk Pumpkin Cookies { Vegan & Gluten Free }
Heather states that these are the very best cookies that she has made since going gluten and dairy free. That says a lot to me. The sea salt is used for sprinkling on top of the cookies.

Apple Cream Cheese Bundt Cake
A good bundt cake can be delicious depending on how moist it is. The icing on top has to be just right, too. This recipe looks like every detail is covered. It features a cream cheese filling and praline icing. Fab!

Nordic Ware Heritage Bundt  Pan
If you are going to do something, why not make it golden? This pan will swirl your batter in the best of ways.
Sur La Table

Mini oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Skillet Cookies
Is there anything better than a warm gooey cookie? This would be my perfect dessert.

Pumpkin Dutch Baby With Pumpkin Butter
Hard to believe but I have never had a dutch baby pancake. This recipe creates a super creamy and custardy Dutch pancake.

Crate & Barrel Slate Blue Bakeware
Something new and exclusive at Crate. The color is as dreamy as the cookies and cakes you will make using it.

Praline Mini Cheesecakes
This recipe is a pecan lovers dream. It's a blend of pecan pie and cheesecake, with lots of white chocolate thrown in. How can this not be delicious?

PS. So sorry about the cookies in all CAPS. A little gremlin decided they wanted a piece of that cookie. Couldn't fix it, but too good not to include.
