Saturdays At Shop This: Calm In The Chaos

Today's inspiration comes from an article in Vogue entitled "Donna Karan Is Looking for “the Calm in the Chaos.” I have always admired the designer. Now I do even more.  She talks about the changing fashion industry, "conscious consumerism," and finding calm in our world today. It's good. I think that we all need to calm down a little bit.  So today's links will hopefully help you to do
 just that.

Donna Karan's  own website, Urban Zen is so beautiful. It's where Donna's philanthropy meets commerce. You owe yourself a visit.  It's calming, and I love the cozy comfort collection. Actually everything is very Zen. By the way, you can save 30% on DonnaKaran.com and DKNY this weekend.

I think we are all feeling a bit of collective grief and anxiety. This video with New York Times best selling author, Glennon Doyle and goop creator, Gwyneth Paltrow, was helpful to me.

This versatile essential oil is known for its' many  benefits, including supporting feelings of relaxation. I put a couple drops in the bath water, on my pillow, and my temples before bed. If you are having trouble sleeping, this may help. I get mine from Dr. Axe

Have you tried any CBD products? I have not. But I found the brand Haoma at Neiman Marcus. I am intrigued. Their philosophy is inspired by the divine plant that shares its name, HAOMA. Their products feature adaptogenic plant ingredients and Earth-based healing modalities. The Calming Temple Balm sounds promising for times
like these.

Aromatherapy: So many studies have been done on the benefits of aroma. Besides just smelling good, certain scents are calming and relaxing. Enter the Nest Fragrance Scent Pura Smart Home Fragrance Diffuser. It will scent your home (or Mom's)  with calming Bamboo & Grapefruit.  How lovely!

Writing about your feelings, including gratitude, helps so much. This less than $10 book makes a nice gift to yourself or someone you care about.

All of this stress and anxiety shows up on our skin. Tea tree oil has a natural calming effect on the skin. I use it all of the time. Just found this organic brand at Nordstrom. B. Well Organic + Australian 100% Tea Tree Oil. It's all natural and will help to combat breakouts, and soothe dryness
 and irritation.

Baby Shusher: Babies and dogs are innately able to pick up on human emotions. If you are not calm, neither will your baby or pet be.  This little machine helps soothe your fussy baby by "engaging their natural calming reflex. Utilizing an ancient but doctor tested technique, it makes a rhythmic shushing sound that lulls your
baby to sleep." Brilliant!

Calming Apps For Kids: If you have been in isolation with the kids, I think you need these by now.

Maybe you are like me and have cried a river since the Coronavirus Crisis began.  We will feel calmer if we choose to see the beauty that is happening, as opposed to the death and sadness. Let's concentrate on the appreciation the world is showing our front line healthcare workers. The flickering lights, applause, and sound of music of the citizens of the world is a
 beautiful thing!

Cinco de Mayo Recipe Favorites

Raise your hand if you could use a margarita! These trying times are driving everyone to drink, I think.  But my arm never has to be twisted to enjoy a really good from scratch margarita. Thank goodness for Cinco de Mayo, we can all indulge. These recipes will tantalize your tastebuds, and inspire your own
Taco Tuesday.

HERE: 17 Ways To Celebrate

Mezcal-Marinated Fajitas
A dish with a smoky, earthy flavor from the mezcal, while the fish sauce adds a little funk and saltiness. Interesting!

Mango Margarita
Margaritas need to be shaken, not stirred. Made with fresh mangoes, lime juice, tequila and Cointreau. Doesn't it look delish?

Insta Pot Chicken Tortilla Soup
This Mexican favorite is made in a flash. It's topped off with crunchy baked tortilla strips, greek yogurt, avocado, and cotija cheese for an easy, gourmet meal at home!

Spicy Fish Tacos With Tequila Lime Pineapple
My favorite taco always includes fish or seafood. Just by the title of the recipe alone, I can tell it is a winner. Adding the sweet pineapple to the spices is a wonderful idea, and will
balance the flavors.

Whole Roasted Chipotle Salsa Cauliflower
Roasted Cauliflower is a staple at my home. The trick to the beautiful brown color is "What's Gaby Cooking, Salsa & Guacamole Starter," at Williams Sonoma. Of course, you can make your own salsa like I would. Get the recipe at..
Bakers Royale

Spicy Rosemary Rhubarb Margarita
Homemade rhubarb syrup brings just the right amount of sweetness to this
chic cocktail!
Adventures In Cooking

Mexican Quinoa Salad Cups
Gluten Free
How pretty, right? This beautiful salad is topped with a dairy free cilantro dressing. A perfect dish as an appetizer or a light entree.

Spicy Pineapple Paloma
This recipe is by Ted Gibson at The Pony Room at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa. The spicy details are only in the garnish.
Town & Country Magazine

Fresh Mango Salsa
With only six ingredients, this salsa is simple yet delicious. The perfect blend of sweet and spicy.

Five Minute Smoky Chipotle Dressing Dairy Free
"Not only is it the perfect balance of smoky, sweet, and spicy, but it requires just 1 bowl, 5 minutes, and 6 simple ingredients." Sounds a good dip for tortilla chips, too.
Minimalist Baker

Classic Flan
A Spanish and Latin American favorite.  If made correctly made, it is silky smooth and sweet.

A Cozy Kitchen

Shrimp Cerviche
Oh how I love any kind of Cerviche. This one just takes minutes to make, and it is filled with bold and zesty flavors.
Dinner At The Zoo

Killer Guac Three Ways
There are many things I would not buy pre-made...actually I buy nothing pre-made. But if I was to say which item I would never buy packaged, it would be guacamole. Can you just imagine the preservatives they must use to keep the color? These three recipes are all gorgeous and ever so easy! And all three are presented beautifully like above.
Feasting At Home

Chipotle Mahi Mahi Burrito Bowl
What makes this bowl stand apart from others is the addition of not just rice, but coconut lime rice, strawberries and mango salsa. What a
 creative combination!
Half Baked Harvest

Crispy Pork Belly Tacos with
Pico de Gallo
Chef Enrique Olvera stuffs tacos with crispy pork belly, confited in fat, and serves them with a tangy salsa spiked with Mexican beer. Doesn't that just sound yummy?
Food and Wine

Lime and Coconut Tres Leche Cake
Doesn't this just sound wonderful? The recipe has been changed up and improved with coconut milk, instead of the  classic cake made with whole milk.

Chipotle Beer Shrimp Quesadillas
The quesadillas are  stuffed with shrimp mango and tomatoes.  And best yet, you make them in a skillet, No need to turn on the oven. This is a good one, people!
How Sweet Eats

Tequila Sunrise
This has been my drink of choice in the past. I think I liked it because they are so pretty.  And they couldn't be
easier to make!
