Show Stopping Sides For Thanksgiving

The "Shop This" household could easily skip the turkey and feast on starters, sides, and desserts. This year, since it is just the two of us, we may do that. This roundup features classic dishes with a twist.  I personally think that life is too short to prepare boring food. So get ready to mull your wine, candy some bacon, and mash the squash.
Get inspired!

Mulled Wine Cranberry Sauce
I begin with my favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table. Some kind of liquor is always present in mine, but I have not tried wine. It does sound like a match made in heaven, though. It's said to be both sweet and tart. Yum!

Maple Roasted Rainbow Carrots With Walnuts and Feta
I am always fascinated by these colorful carrots. They are almost too pretty to cook. Did you know that each color of rainbow carrot provides a different nutrient for your body?  Click the link to read more. But safe to say that this might be the healthiest dish on the table.

Pumpkin and Potato Gratins With Gruyere and Sage
Sage is my favorite word and ingredient for Fall and Thanksgiving. I go through quite a bit of the fresh herb each Thanksgiving. The cheese is nutty and strong, but not overpowering at all.
Something different!

Pumpkin Bread Stuffing With Candied Bacon & Pecans
A bit untraditional because of the sweet aspect of this dressing. Why not try something new? Here's a reason to delve deeper,  there is rum involved!

Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes
Here's a tangy twist on the classic mashed. These would be a hit here!

Baguette, Smoked Oyster, and Pancetta Stuffing
I would love to make this dish, but Mr. Shop This does not do oysters.  (Imagine that?) Anyway, this stuffing gets a dash or two of Cognac before baking.
Yes Please!

Chipotle Cranberry Chutney
This cranberry chutney features a little kick and a touch of heat that works so well with the sweet. P.S. the darling ruffled MacKenzie Childs dish can be found HERE

Mashed Butternut Squash With Goat Cheese & Rosemary
What a festive and colorful alternative to mashed potatoes! Or serve both.

Brussels Sprouts With Glazed Pancetta and Pecan
What a tasty trio of ingredients! When I really want to create a brussels sprout dish, this is how I do it. It's beyond delicious!

Slow Cooker Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes
These look perfect, don't they? Fresh garlic always gives potatoes a depth of flavor. How nice not to have to deal with your potatoes at the last minute. The slow cooker makes so much sense!

Savory Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Parmesan, Garlic & Herbs
Perfect for those who prefer their sweet potatoes more savory than sweet.

Green Bean Bundles With Bacon & Brown Sugar
What about skipping the green bean casserole this year and trying these beautiful bundles? Truth be told, I have never made green bean casserole. But these I would think about serving!
Williams Sonoma

Sage, Buttermilk and Bacon Biscuits
Anything with sage has a place on my Thanksgiving table. What a winning combination of flavors!

Pumpkin Walnut Sage Risotto
{ Vegan }
Serve the unexpected, and switch out dressing or potatoes for this dish. Doesn't this look delish? And from start to finish it only takes 30 minutes.

Crispy Roasted Potatoes with Thyme
Crispy, buttery, and aromatic. No wonder that this dish is one of Williams Sonoma's most popular recipes of all time!

Rosemary-Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes
The pecans for this creamy concoction have been spiced and roasted, giving these sweets a
crunchy twist.

Cheesy Sausage & Sage Stuffing
Melted gooey cheese in your stuffing? I never thought about it, but it looks fab. This dish falls between a strata, a gratin, and the traditional dressing. Maybe it will become a new  family favorite.

Pumpkin Bread Rolls
How cute are these? The kids will love them, and the adults will be impressed.
