Soup's On! Recipes & More

When the weather is this cold, nothing sounds better than a cup or bowl of homemade soup. It's real comfort food, and will warm you up in no time.  I'm in the mood for some right now. These are the recipes that tempted my taste buds. Enjoy!

Creamy Roasted Cauliflower Soup
First of all, this soup has no cream or milk in it at all. It gets the creaminess from the cauliflower after it is roasted. There's also 1/3 cup of greek yogurt in it. Healthy and delicious? Count me in.

Salsa Verde Tortilla Soup
This recipe calls for lots of veggies, seasonings, chunky red salsa, smoky salsa verde, and oodles of toppings. If you add chicken or shrimp, it becomes a delicious main course.

The Best Lentil Soup
I haven't tried this one yet, the title is the  recipe author's. But it sure does look hearty and delicious. I might swap out the carrots for sweet potatoes. They are equally healthy. The sweet potatoes will add a touch of sweetness for balance.

Wild Rice & Mushroom Soup
Hearty and vegetarian, this soup is best enjoyed with  crusty warm bread. It's made with bella mushrooms, heavy cream, greated parm, carrots, wild rice and plenty of seasoning.

Feel Better Chicken Soup
You have heard of "chicken soup" for the soul. Well, this recipe is "chicken soup" for what ails you. The chicken soup that I make is much like this, except there is added turmeric powder. And you simply can't put enough lemon or garlic in it. I have cured Covid with this recipe!

Simple Seafood Bisque
This recipe looks, feels, and tastes super fancy. Yet it takes zero fuss. I will add that it is ultra rich with butter, heavy cream, and half and half. It wouldn't be bisque without it!

The Perfect French Onion Soup
My favorite soup of all time. This recipe is really quite simple. And of course gooey Gruyere cheese is involved!

You will find a great set of Mini Individual Copper  Cocoettes at Williams Sonoma on sale!

Brie & Cheddar Butternut Squash Beer Soup
This soup is made for dipping and dunking soft pretzels! Besides all of the gooey cheese, there are veggies, too. I think I have to make this soon.

Fully Loaded Baked Potato Soup
If you love a loaded baked potato, you will enjoy this recipe. In fact, the entire family will love it.

Souped Up Tomato Soup
It's safe to say the I "soup up" everything I make. Following a recipe to the teaspoon is not my thing. So naturally, this recipe caught my eye. But I would not change a thing about the side of grilled cheese!

If you are serving Soup & Sandwich like the recipe above, Crate & Barrel has a stylish porcelain set on sale.

Corn Chicken Chowder
Another soup that uses Geek Yogurt instead of heavy cream or flour to thicken this soup. So we can call this creamy concoction healthy!
Well Plated

Sur La Table has an Immersion Blender on sale. They are very handy in making creamy soups.

Spicy Peanut Soup With Sweet Potato and Kale
This soup is comforting and simply delicious. And if you don't care for kale, like me, just swap it our for spinach. It features coconut milk, peanuts and peanut butter. I'm sold!

Countdown To Thanksgiving: Talking Turkey

When it comes to cooking a turkey, I like to mix it up each year. If you do, as well, take a peek at these yummy recipes. They are quite unique.  And for good measure I have added a few "must have" turkey tools. Always remember to add a pinch of love to whichever recipe you choose.

Herb & Butter Turkey
Tieghan calls this recipe perfection. It's simple. The only thing "fancy" about it is the use of a cheesecloth. I have used this method several times, and it works.

Turkey Forks
Something I don't have in my kitchen. If you cook many roasts or turkeys, you need these.

Bacon Wrapped Turkey With Mustard & Tarragon Butter
First of all, the recipe calls for free range or organic turkey. I personally wouldn't eat any other kind of turkey. It's beautiful to look at, and I imagine quite juicy.

Digital Instant-Read Pen Thermometer
A necessary tool for turkey roasting! Best yet, this is on sale now at

Pastrami Style Grilled Turkey Breast
What an interesting recipe. You will need some unusual equipment, too:
A spice mill or a mortar and pestle; a chimney starter and smoking chips. Here's hoping for a good weather day.

Bourbon Glazed Turkey
I have done this, and it is so so good. Add another splash to the gravy and you have one special meal. The color of your bird will never look better.

Foodie Friday: Cooking With Citrus

Cold weather cooking is warm, comforting, and can be a little heavy. Winter's citrus fruits add a brightness and lightness to your soups, salads, casseroles and cakes. Not to mention how healthy these fruits are. I start each day with warm lemon and Himalayan salt water. Google the benefits of that combination. This recipe roundup features the jewels of Winter's produce.

Upside Down Winter Citrus Cake
Is it art or is it cake? It's pretty as a picture, and said to be easy as pie to make!

Lemony Herb Roasted Chicken
I never have seen a chicken or turkey that I didn't stuff and spritz with lemon. This is a classic recipe that gets upgraded with lemons and fresh thyme.

Citrus Salad With Mint And Marcona Almonds
What a party worthy salad! The dressing features fruit juice, honey, and mint.

Smeg Dolce & Gabbana Citrus Juicer
Doesn't every designer kitchen need one of these? Now on sale and ships for free from...

Sheet Pan Salmon With Citrus, Avocado Salsa and Potatoes
This recipe is extra colorful, easy, and delicious. Not to mention healthy! Love the addition of arugula.

Ricotta Pancakes With Lemon Curd
Said to be a cross between a fluffy pancake and a delicate crepe, these perfect pancakes sound absolutely delish! I find making homemade lemon curd to be so satisfying.

Citrus Salad with Arugula & Ricotta Salata
How pretty is this plate? It has been made with both Blood and Cara Cara oranges, fresh mint, baby arugula, pistachios and more. What a lovely beginning to any meal.

Pollo Pibil Tacos with Citrus Salsa
These tacos begin with a slow baked pulled chicken. They get sauced up with a yummy orange and annoto/achiote sauce. The citrus salsa adds a sweet zest to this dish.

Verve Artisan Citrus Juicer
If you make a lot of margaritas, this may be one terrific tool for you!
Sur La Table

Spicy Orange Margaritas
Ms. Shop This and I have made Blood Orange Margs in the past, so I know that this citrus fruit works really well. The cocktail gets spiced up with some Jalapeno simple syrup.  How interesting.

Grapefruit and Seafood Ceviche
The last time I had ceviche, it was with Mollie. It was so bland that we politely sent it back. It needed these ingredients - grapefruit, jalapeno, and fragrant ginger. I think this recipe is a winner,

Greek Yogurt Blood Orange
Loaf Cake
I just love what blood oranges do to food and drink! The color is fabulous and the flavor so much deeper than a regular orange. This is a beautiful recipe to try ASAP.

Citrus Glass Plates
Inspired by the Amalfi Coast, these pretty plates also have matching bowls and chargers.  They will add a touch of Italy to every meal.

Ruby Red Sparkler Mocktail
Doing a dry January? Make this for your next zoom cocktail hour. Everyone will want one.

Meyer Lemon Pizza
Certainly not your delivery pizza, but ever so good.
Made with prosciutto, mascarpone, Parmesan, and  goat cheese, this recipe is a great appetizer. Yum!

Manual Citrus Press
This is my most used cook's tool in the kitchen. I start each day squeezing lemon in it. Couldn't live without it. Works well with limes, too.

Lobster Salad With Grapefruit & Avocado
Oh my! I want a bite now. The fresh grapefruit in the salad and in the dressing along with champagne vinegar cuts the richness of the lobster.  And the avocado adds a healthy creaminess.
Williams Sonoma

Grapefruit Smoothie Bowl
They say that we eat with our eyes. If that is true, then we all will love this pretty dish.  What a beautiful way to start your day.
Hummusapien

Slow Roasted Citrus Salmon
I can't say that I have ever slow roasted salmon before. Tieghan says it is absolutely delish. Worth trying! And can we talk about just how beautiful this dish is? Talk about eating the rainbow....
Half Baked Harvest

Mile High Lemon Pie
This makes me think of a very good friend who made the best lemon pie. I could go for some now. (Now 21 days and counting without sugar.) The weather has to be just right to make this cloud like classic. I have done it well, and then another time not so good. This recipe is said to be fool proof.

As Easy As Pie

Somehow I lost a week in planning Thanksgiving "Foodie Fridays."  So I thought, "Why not Wednesdays?" This week, we are eating dessert first, then turkey on Friday. I am a cake girl myself, but one must eat pie on Turkey day.  This recipe roundup is beyond yummy, if I say so myself.  Included in the post are some terrific tools that will make your Thanksgiving dessert, well, easy as pie!

Gingerbread Slab Pie
Here's a new twist on a holiday classic - Gingerbread. The author states "It’s part gingerbread cookie, part tart raspberry pie, and entirely delicious." What more can we want?

Bourbon Pecan Pie
What's pecan pie without a little bourbon? This recipe is said to be so easy to make, that it is downright dangerous!

Cranberry and Lemon Curd Pie
If you can believe, this pie crust is made on the grill. How different, right?  That crust is made from gingersnap cookies. It's just so holiday-ish!

Sweet Potato Pie
I have never had the opportunity to try this southern specialty, which is surprising since my family is from the South. This beauty is finished off with a kitchen torch. I want it. Scroll down for one that's on sale.

Pastry Cutter
Ever wonder how those pie crusts look so pretty? It's because the baker had a professional tool like this.  My mother had one.

Dutch Caramel Apple Pie
This recipe levels up the average apple pie.  It's all drizzled with a homemade salted caramel sauce.

Cashew-Crusted Caramel Cream Pie
This recipe had me at every word! And that meringue - Wow!
Better Homes & Gardens

Rosle Kitchen Torch
High-heat kitchen torch caramelizes crème brûlée, roasts peppers, skins tomatoes and much more. How handy to have, especially on sale.

Chocolate Pumpkin Pie
Every dinner needs a little chocolate. Here you go. This recipe eliminates the intimidation homemade dough, and uses chocolate wafer cookies for the crust.  The swirls are simple but stunning.
Heather Christo

Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Pie With Salted Bourbon Caramel
This pie is larger than life!  And what better time to go big than on Thanksgiving? Best yet, you don't even have to make the ice cream. Store bought works well.

Chocolate Tart with Pomegranates and Hazelnuts
When pumpkin pie just won't do. The filling is a rich chocolate ganache. Sign me up.
Dulce de Leche Pumpkin Pie
Caramel and pumpkin? Oh yes please. As the author states: "The dulce de leche flavor is subtle, but it gives the pie a nice undertone of caramelized sugar and depth of flavor, that most pumpkin pies are missing." Agreed.

Pie Box
The perfect thing if you are serious about the safety of your pies. It's also a great gift for bakers!

Deep Dish Apple Pie
I have made a version of this, but added homemade caramel sauce. It was a hit. Don't be intimidated by that crust. You make it in a springform pan, which keeps it all together. It is worth the effort.

Pumpkin Mousse Pie
This is how I prefer my pumpkin - as a mousse. I actually love to make any kind of mousse. This is a "no bake" recipe which makes it easy to do ahead.  The icing on this pie, is actually white chocolate curls. Oh my!

French Kitchen Marble Rolling Pin
This beautiful rolling pin is hefty enough to handle the toughest of doughs. It's almost too pretty to put away. A fab find for less than $25.

Gluten Free Dairy Free Pumpkin Pie
This gorgeous concoction is really over the top. The fact that it is gluten free is a big bonus. It's made with coconut cream!
