Cooking Up Comfort

In my last post I mentioned that going forward I will be posting on only happy, healthy, or helpful topics. Comfort food equals happiness, doesn't it? With all of us cooking more, and everyone at home together, it's time for some feel good food. Please don't forget the secret ingredient ~ a heaping spoonful
of love!

Gruyere Mac And Cheese
With Caramelized Onions
If you have not used Gruyere in your mac and cheese, you truly are missing out. The caramelized onions are another ingredient I would never skip. They add a certain sweetness to this cheesy dish. Super good!

Easy French Onion Soup
One of my favorites! The trick to an amazing French Onion soup is the slow process of caramelized onions. We have the time now, my friends.

Chicken Pot Pie
Comfort food at its' finest! This recipe features a creamy filling with chicken, peas, potatoes, and carrots. It's all topped off with a homemade
pastry crust. My kind of comfort.

Baked Spaghetti And Meatballs
A comforting crowd pleaser! And it's a recipe that the entire family will enjoy.

Cinnamon Sugar Brown Butter Popovers
A good popover is hard to beat. When they are warm, they just seem to melt in your mouth. I can just imagine how good these are after being generously brushed with melted butter and rolled in cinnamon sugar. Hello breakfast!

Hot Chocolate For One
Don't forget to treat yourself! There's nothing quite like a big mug of hot liquid chocolate. It's made with high quality cocoa. And don't forget
 the salt!

Teddy Bear Snickerdoodles
Don't we all just need something that makes us smile? These sweet and salty cookies will bring out the child in all of us. And get the kids to help you. They will love the experience.

Bourbon Sloppy Joes
Gosh I haven't had one in years, might have to make this recipe. The ground beef is mixed with a tomato bourbon sauce. The entire recipe is a twist on an American classic.

Shepherd's Pie
I've never had this casserole, but have always wanted to make it. Talk about meat and potatoes!

Stuffed French Toast
Breakfast for dinner has always been comforting in our home. Children love it, too. I have been making French Toast since I was a young child. But I had never had it stuffed until experiencing it at The Belvedere Mansion in the Hudson Valley. All I can say, it is a killer dish. Just try it.

Creamy Tomato Soup With Grilled Cheese Croutons
Everyone's favorite soup and sandwich all in one bowl! Cute as can be.

Banana Pudding
Oh does this remind me of my parents! My mom made it often, and my dad couldn't get enough of it. I loved it, too. It's made with old fashion vanilla wafers! Now I want some. Recipe courtesy of Trisha Yearwood.

Fried Chicken And Waffles
For some, but not me, this is comfort food royalty. Some would say it is the modern cheat meal. This recipe begins with a buttermilk brine for the chicken thighs. There's a sweet touch to every savory bite thanks to the
pure maple syrup.

PS. My spell checker went missing today....so please forgive any spelling errors. I was left to my own devices.

A Note To My Friends & Followers

~

As a blogger, I am conflicted as to what to write about, while the world is fighting the Coronavirus. So many people are sick, anxious, worried about money, out of work, and lonely. A shopping post seems a bit superfluous these days. But I am a small business, too.  "Mr. Shop This" is in the financial markets, and "Miss Shop This" is still ill in NYC. So we are experiencing the same
concerns as all of you.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I hope that you already know this, but I am so grateful to you all for following along and shopping with me.   Going forward, because I know that you have more important things to do than to read my blog, I will post only when I have something helpful, happy, or healthy to
write about.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
My wish is that you and your families are healthy. We are trying here. I have stocked up on my Dr. Axe Essential Oils and Vitamin C.  It's all organic, which is very important to me.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
We are in this together, and we will get through this together. If you have any personal shopping requests, I am here to help. Just leave a message on this post at Shop This: HERE

There is one sale that is just too good not to mention. 25% off sitewide at Nordstrom  including beauty and fragrance.  (Some exclusions)

What To Wear While Working From Home

This is something I know about. As a blogger, I work from home every day. My uniform of choice almost always involves my black Yummie Jodi yoga pants.  It's unlikely that any of us will be dressed like the working girl above. It's just not necessary. Instead choose a look that is comfy casual and or casually chic. A good top or blazer will come in handy for video conferences. Good luck juggling your work and family responsibilities. These are not easy times. We can all get through it together with kindness, love, and always style!

Lottie Poncho
An effortless layer for indoors or out.

Barefoot Dreams
They don't call this line cozy chic for nothing. The fabric is super soft, and the styles are causal chic. Put it on in the morning, and take a walk in the same outfit in the afternoon.
Shop the collection at

Cotton Crewneck
If you are like me, you love a good detail. This twisted knot hemline elevates the look of a tee shirt. This not so basic top is made from certified cotton. Available in four colorways including
pink and black.

Leset Pants & Turtleneck
Color block chic. From a brand I had not heard of before today.  I love the simplicity of their styles.
I think you will, too.

Lustrous Legging
High shine and style! Pair these with any sweater or top for a look at home or on the streets.

Better Days Sweat Shirt
I might own one sweatshirt. It's not in my every day lineup. But for days like these, this one is quite good looking. The raglan sleeves make all of the difference. The pockets are practical, and the subtle ribbed  details add a feminine touch. It's available in 13 shades, too!

Varley Oversized Sweat Top
One of my favorite pieces of the edit.  This top has style for days. Love that it is long enough to cover what
needs to be covered.

Frame Denim & Tops
This casually chic edit features the jeans you love and tops to wear with them. A blazer would be handy for your next video conference call.

Spiritual Gangster
These two pieces create one fierce fashion look. Love!

Wide Leg Pants & Sweater
Lou & Grey's fabrics are super soft, in fact unbelievable soft. Which makes everything comfy for home. Love these Wide Leg Pants paired with the happy Bloom Sweater. If you are doing any video conferencing, its a perfect pick.

Saturdays At Shop This

The world has changed so much this week. Mr. Shop This travelled by air. Ms. Shop This is still sick in NYC, and I have watched way too much news. If you are like me, you might be feeling anxious these days. This post will try to get your mind off "things" with a little retail therapy and some stress relief.

One of Spring's most beautiful dresses: Kika Vargas's Ruffle Embroidered midi. Oh My! See it at Bergdorf Goodman

Staycations:  So many of our trips are being disrupted with this pandemic. I, for one, am questioning my birthday trip to NYC, and I am not happy about it.  If you are staying home and yearning for Tulum or dreaming of Paris, One Kings Lane has some wonderful outdoor inspiration
 for you!

Macy's Beauty: I walked through the Macy's Chicago beauty aisles this week. I was the only non employee in the Cosmetics section! You may want to shop their online beauty sale this weekend. What beautiful buys! I found Laura Mercier bath and body products, Kiehl's, Paul Mitchell,
It Cosmetics and more.

Did I hear someone say that wine is good for the flu? Or was that it is good for the soul? I'll do anything to stay healthy,  won't you?  :) Aren't we all just one glass of red away from a stain? Food52 offers us a handy trick that will save the day. It's easier than you think.

Product Review: I recently purchased Jane Iredale's Smooth Affair Primer & Brightener. OMG, I love it! I have tried three foundation primers prior to this. They were all bad. This "clean beauty" primer smells divine from essential oils, and does a lovely job of blurring fine lines, wrinkles, and minimizes pores. Best of all, it keeps my foundation fresh looking all day long.
Highly recommend.

Relieve stress in 8 minutes or less. I will try anything. Get the "how to" at Pacific Coast. While you are there, they are offering 20% off comforters, featherbeds, and pillows this weekend.  Sleep is so important
 to our health.

The Spring Design Event  at Serena and Lily is on  this weekend. Save 20% sitewide (but not on sale items.)  If I had private outdoor space, this tasseled patio umbrella would be mine! The new Bel Air sheet set is so fresh and sophisticated. Love the embroidered chain motif!

One of my favorite things in life is my daily dancing. It's impossible to be in a bad mood when you dance. It's a great stress reliever, too. I will share with you my Amazon Prime Dance Playlist.

It's In The Bag!

{ Via: Food52 }

To market, to market. We all go there. Gone are the days, at least in Chicago, when your groceries are packed for you in paper or plastic bags. Now you are asked the question, "do you need a bag?" Unless you bring your own, you leave juggling the fruits and veggies, or you pay 7 cents per bag. I am all for doing away with the plastic bags. They are actually suffocating the planet. Google it. This post offers ten shopping solutions, and gives new meaning to "BYOB." Next shopping trip, bring your
 own bag.

Capabunga Market Tote
This Market Tote is your grocery solution. There's a place for everything. You can divide your bounty into separate compartments, while keeping your eggs, glass bottles and your most fragile
food intact. There's even a spot for your Farmer's Market flowers. Love the
flat bottom.
Goop

Insulated Rolling Shopping Cart
Take a load off.....your shoulders. This rolling wonder will take you to the market, a tailgate party, a picnic, or the farmers market. The bag is actually cooler, so you can get the Ben & Jerry's home before it melts. A wonderful gift for almost anyone.
Food52

Sur La Table Market Tote
This classic canvas tote features extra-long handles and a wide, rectangular base for easy filling. Best yet, it won't break the bank or the eggs.
Sur La Table

The Organic Market Bag
Plastic Bag meets organic cotton. Now this is a winning solution.  It's sturdy, good for the planet, and comes in 4 great colors, including a pale rose. It also has a bigger brother. I might need both.
Food52

Market Tote Bag
Made of natural jute. Isn't it cute? The handles are leather and will carry your goods home with style.
Eden Design

Baggu Set Of Three Bags
These just may get the cutest bag award. They are so fun for many things....trips to the market, carrying wine to a "girls night in" event, or taking an extra pair of shoes to work. As you can see, they fold and pack up perfectly.
Shopbop

Claudia Pearson Culinary Tote Bags
Quirky little bags from Brooklyn artist, Claudia Pearson. She's illustrated children's books, pages of the New Yorker, and everything in between. Now she wants to go to market with you!
West Elm

Shiraleah Woven Tote

If you opt for fashion forward rather than cute, this is an option. It's made of PVC & Jute, so it is stylishly sturdy.
Nordstrom

Sicilia Lemon Tote
Not too many shopping in Italy today, but you can feel like you are with this sturdy burlap tote.
Sur La Table

Royal Totes & Carriers
In a collaboration with Scout, MacKenzie-Childs presents food and beverage carriers. They have zippers, pockets, and insulation. The handles feature the MKC chic check. Super pretty
 for Spring.
