Foodie Friday: The Best Recipes To Boost Your Immune System

With the number of people suffering and worse from influenza this year, a healthy Foodie Friday is in order. I have been very busy this week fighting off a cold or the flu. If you know me, you know of my aversion to chemicals of any kind, especially in food.  I believe in eating your way to good health, and that I did this week. These recipes will help us all to stay healthy while eating well.

HERE: 20 Good For You Recipes

Red Bell Peppers
These sweet peppers are an excellent source of vitamin C even better than oranges.

Homemade Harissa Sauce
This condiment that is good on almost anything is actually a spicy red pepper sauce. Homemade always trumps store bought. This recipe looks worth the effort.
Half Baked Harvest

Red Pepper Shrimp Scampi
Don't you love a recipe that comes together in about 20 minutes? It is filled with good for you veggies, garlic, and white wine.
A Beautiful Mess

Creamy Red Pepper Soup
This comforting recipe is proof that comfort food does not have to be unhealthy. The tomatoes are rich in lycopene and bell peppers provide plenty of beta carotene, which are both free-radical-fighting antioxidants. Go for it!

Chicken Soup
There's science now that backs up this old home remedy. Turns out that Chicken Soup is actually good for the soul and the body! I highly recommend making your own. Have you seen what is inside of a can of soup? And even if the recipes do not call for it, add some turmeric to your soup.

Poblano Corn Chicken Tortilla Soup
Chicken soup can be a little boring to me, but it doesn't have to be. This recipe is naturally gluten-free and loaded with protein and veggies. Squeeze some extra lime into the pot, the citrus is good for you!
Half Baked Harvest

Chicken And Spring Vegetable Soup
Simmer asparagus, peas and your favorite veggies of the season in a light, delicately flavored soup. Easy and don't forget to add the turmeric.
 Williams Sonoma

Thai Chicken Zoodle Soup
This recipe is the perfect example of eating the rainbow. Also it is a great way to use leftovers. Just beautiful!
How Sweet Eats

Garlic
Garlic contains selenium, which seems to have a powerful effect on immune systems, at least on mine.  And since garlic is a fragrant addition to any meal, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be eating more of it. I use paper thin slices of garlic in almost everything I make. If done right, you don't taste it.

Garlic & Rosemary Hummus
An easy recipe to make up that is packed with flavor and good for you ingredients.
Adventures In Cooking

Garlic Butter Roasted Chicken Thighs With Charred Lemon salsa Verde & Asparagus.
Oh I wish that I liked dark meat. For an even healthier version I think I will make it with skinless boneless chicken breast. It's super heavy on Mediterranean flavors, and than in itself is healthy.
Half Baked Harvest

Garlic Baby Bok Choy
Bok Choy has a long lineup of nutrients that help promote bone health. After a broken leg and now a torn meniscus, it is my current favorite veggie. Besides being so cute, bok choy features Iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and bone-building vitamin K.
The Woks Of Life

Mussels With Chili, Garlic And White Wine
With the added garlic, the fresh parsley Roma tomatoes, and of course wine, this recipe looks good, tastes good, and is so good for you!
Gourmet Traveller

Citrus
Vitamin C, vitamin C, vitamin C. Most of us can't get enough. Eat grapefruits, oranges, and clementines. They will all give you a healthy dose.

Cara Cara Orange Salad
Could a salad be better looking? It is served with a homemade vinaigrette, which will add to the freshness of this healthy salad.
 The Clever Carrot

Ginger Orange Glazed Salmon
A quick no fuss, low stress recipe with high sex appeal. The author tells us the following healthy facts: "The high Vitamin C content in oranges helps lower cortisol (stress hormone) and protects our immune system. The Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon can prevent surges in stress hormones and may help protect against heart disease, depression, and – get this – PMS. "
The Roasted Root

Grapefruit Greek Yogurt Cake
I know someone who will be asking for this colorful cake. This recipe is said to be moist, refreshing, very vanilla, and delicious. And may I add, it's so pretty, too.
Sally's Baking Addiction

Almonds
These tree nuts are full of vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that can help fight off infection. A handful of almonds also staves off hunger. For myself, I would rather cook with them than snack on them

Tandoori Roasted Cauliflower With Almond Butter
I try to avoid butter like the plague, unless it is a cake or cookie :) But if that butter is made from almonds, I'm in. If you haven't tried roasted cauliflower yet, you owe it to yourself and your body!
Season With Spice

Chocolate Chip Almond Butter Granola Bars Gluten Free
"Simple, 6 ingredient bars that are tender, chewy and so easy to make. Chocolate chips and almond butter make these bars irresistible without any of the guilt."
Minimalist Baker

Pan Roasted Chicken With
Carrots & Almonds
A very interesting recipe that smartly calls for roasting the almonds. That's always the right idea. This comforting dish is then topped with a dollop of  Greek yogurt and lemon for a bright fresh finish.
Epicurious

Turmeric
I swear by this humble root vegetable with the golden color. Three times this Winter it has helped me to stave off the flu and a cold. It's also filled with anti-inflammatory properties, and has done wonders for a little hand problem I have. I take daily doses of it in pill form, and then add the veggie to my food, as well. New research has shown that it also benefits those with cancer. Why not give it a try?

Turmeric-Ginger Tahini Dip
"Flavored with turmeric, ginger and garlic, this tahini dip recipe is perfect for dipping vegetables or topping your next falafel."
Eating Well

Turmeric Chickpea Fritters
Say hello to your next 30 minute meal. It's gorgeous isn't it? These fun fritters are said to be crispy on the outside, tender on the inside loaded with a garlicky flavor and infused with turmeric! If you love falafel, you are going to eat these up!
Minimalist Baker

Pineapple Turmeric Ant-Inflammatory Smoothie
This pretty drink promises to detoxify your body, lower inflammation, and support your healthy immune system.
