Foodie Friday: 15 Sweet and Savory Skewers

Most of us have the grilling classics down - you know the standard fare --hot dogs, hamburgers, steaks. Why not shake up your grill game with something different? These skewers are what's for dinner this summer!

Chicken Caprese Pesto Chicken Skewers
There really is nothing to dislike about this recipe ~  Chicken plus sweet in-season cherry tomatoes tossed up with basil pesto. Fresh and fabulous!

Sangria Marinated Grilled Shrimp Skewers
Oh my goodness! These sound delicious, and can be cooked up in a flash. The marinade is made of everything you put in Sangria like red wine, tangerines, key limes, orange liqueur, and honey. May have to make these this weekend.

Grilled Greek Lamb Skewers
A beautiful and unique recipe that combines protein with veggies, my favorite way to eat.

Steak Kabobs
I grew up having steak kabobs at least once a week. You begin by marinating the steak in a delicious concoction of soy and  Worcestershire sauces, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, garlic and a little brown sugar.Pretty much just like my Father made.

Swordfish Skewers With Lemon Garlic Sauce
This truly is a meal on a stick.  With onions, zucchini, small potatoes and fish, it is everything you need for a satisfying meal. If you can't find swordfish, halibut would do.

Greek Chicken Kabobs
Oh these sound so good. Marinated and based with all the traditional Greek flavors with olive oil, oregano, lemon, garlic, and Greek Yogurt. Oompa!

Easy Grilled Brussels Sprouts
The vegetarians and the carnivores will love this unexpected skewer. They are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Veggie perfection!

Pork & Pineapple Kabobs
This recipe is all about choosing an excellent thick pork chop, and then marinating it. The pineapple adds a wonderful sweetness.

Salmon Bites With Wasabi Mayo
We just had the best Copper River Salmon this evening. How lucky am I that at our weekly Farmer's Market, they sell fresh seafood right off the boat? Wether you eat this as a bite before dinner, or as your main course, it couldn't be more delicious.

Antipasta Kabobs
Here is a "go to" party appetizer that will wow your guests. Make these ahead and then drizzle with a basil pesto sauce.

Steak Kabobs With Chimichurri Sauce
Beef and Chimichurri are a match made in heaven. I need to make it more often. The sauce adds a zesty brightness to the steak.

Grilled Scallops with Creamed Corn
The large scallops have been treated to a dry rub made with a very interesting mix of spices. I am sure that is why this recipe is so good. I can hardly wait until July to make the creamed corn. Yum!

Spicy Beer BBQ Chicken Skewers with Avocado Corn and Feta Salsa
This recipe looks and sounds so very good! Just promise me that you will go to the trouble to make the barbecue sauce yourself. Ditch the extra ingredients that you can't pronounce in the bottle. Half Baked Harvest
Strawberry Brownie Kabobs
I couldn't leave you without a dessert option. These are so simple to make and make a pretty presentation. Get the kids to help. Sweet Tooth

Foodie Friday: Skewers For Every Summer Cookout

If your grill could talk, it might tell you that it is bored with the same lineup of steaks and burgers. These recipes are anything but boring. I grew up on shish kebabs, as we called them. The marinating and skewering is just fun, not to mention so flavorful. It's a wonderful idea for entertaining, as you can get all of the prep work done ahead of time. The possibilities are endless when grilling anything on a stick. Scroll down and find something different to serve this weekend.

Cantaloupe Prosciutto Caprese Skewers With Lemon Mint Pesto
Let's begin with an appetizer. OMG! These are the cutest, but are said to be embarrassingly easy. The lemon mint pesto, however, makes them
quite impressive.

30 Minute Sweet That Chili Salmon
A sophisticated but simple dish. All I can say is that this sounds like an explosion of flavors in the best of ways.

Teriyaki Bourbon Steak Skewers
Let's stark with the steak. It's filet mignon which is already tender. Marinate in in teriyaki sauce, bourbon, and rice vineger, and you are guaranteed some fork tender meat. The drizzle on top? It's called yum yum sauce.

Chicken Kebabs with Garlic Lemon Yogurt
This recipe is from the Middle Eastern NYC restaurant Dez.  The flavor profile is kicked up a notch by marinating the chicken in baharat, a Middle Eastern spice blend. When you add the cherry tomatoes, dipping sauce, and mint, you have something special.

Grilled Swordfish Skewers With Lemon Garlic Sauce
This is a meal on a stick! I am sure that I would love every bite. Those charred potatoes must be delish.

Grilled Pork Skewers With Balsamic Marinade
"Grilled Pork Skewers! Pork tenderloin gets its flavor from a Balsamic Marinade with soy sauce, garlic, and spicy seasonings!" I will add that I often use a marinade like this for grilling, and it's fab.
Kitchen Confidante

Grilled Shrimp & Sausage Skewers
A Spanish take on "surf and turf." I also get some New Orleans vibes from the ingredients.

Honey BBQ Chicken and Charred Corn Polenta
This recipe had me at "charred corn polenta." Doesn't that sound different and delicious? The honey adds a sweetness and a fabulous caramelization.

Sweet and Sour Pork Skewers With Pineapple
These sure look fun! And pineapple grilled is really a chunk of heaven. Worth a try.

Lemongrass Beef Skewers
This dish features a Vietnamese flavor balance of salty, sweet, and savory. The meat used is flank steak, which if you can believe, I have never cooked.

Grilled Scallop Skewers
Said to be the most luxurious meal one can grill. I cook scallops often in a grill pan, but never have tried them outside on the grill. Duh! The recipe calls for a quick marinade of honey, garlic, and Spanish smoked paprika. Trying this one.

Grilled Siracha Tahini Sweet Potato Skewers With Halloumi
I can promise you that I will be making this dish over the weekend. Perhaps minus the cheese, though the pairing of sweet from the potatoes, and salty from the cheese is tempting. The Siracha kicks it all up a notch.
