Wedding Wednesday: A Registry Guide

I remember how serious I took this "registering business" when I was a young bride to be. Despite my fastidious efforts, we still received 12 unwanted candlesticks and seven irons as wedding gifts.  This is what registries are for. In 2016, many brides to be, already have a fully stocked kitchen. That doesn't mean that you wouldn't love Le Creuset's latest cherise cocotte, or a marvelous mandolin.  For the ultimate list in Registry Must Haves - look to Vogue.  Here's a listing of five favorite stores for Wedding Registries and inspiration for everything your heart desires.

Wedding Wednesday: The Dish On Registries

Now that you are engaged, take a minute and enjoy being in love. Then when the time feels right, take a breath and get going. You have work to do! Creating a registry can be fun but it is quite a bit of decision making. I urge you to look into the highest end stores, home blogs and magazines for inspiration. There you will find timeless, classic and on trend styles.  Just because prices might seem expensive to you, doesn't mean your guests won't be delighted to buy what you select. Dream big!

Top Your Table
Even if you don't plan to serve "fancy" today, think about the future. Might you have your colleagues or boss for dinner or cocktails? Wouldn't you want to put your best foot forward? My suggestion is to register for two different types of dishes. Something for everyday, and another set for dressier events. Why not? Your guests are buying!

Villeroy and Bach New Wave
I became acquainted with this modern pattern at my neighbor's home.  It works perfectly in her urban environment. Without a pattern, it can mix with all color palettes and decor styles. It just may be the answer for the perfect pattern for everyday or fine dining.
Macy's

The accessory pieces allow couples to show off their entertaining skills.

Wedding Wednesday: Uncommon Gifting

My wedding was very large, with about 400 guests.  We received many gifts, and some were just lovely,  I still have the gift list. When reviewing the gifts recently, I saw that I received 6 toasters and 7 mixers. Really? Of course, each of those were returned, as I had received a toaster and mixer at bridal showers. When choosing a gift, at least check their registry.  In doing so you will see the colors they want, what they have, and the style of decor they desire. Finding a registry is simple, just Google "Jane Smith, Chicago Wedding Registry." Or look at the list of Registries at the end of the post.

Colin Cowie, party planner extraordinaire had the following to say about gifting: How Much Should I Give As A Wedding Gift?

"What you think what is appropriate and what you can afford to give. No one is going to judge you for the cost of your gift."

I will add, be thoughtful and creative, no matter what your budget. In a sea of china plates and wine glasses, an uncommon gift is a welcome one. Also another hint - do not bring your gift to the reception.  Be considerate of your hosts and send it before or after the event.  Here's a little inspiration for your own gift giving.
