How To Wear White After Labor Day

Well, August has come and gone, darn it.  As much as I hate the thought of Summer coming to a close, there will still be some warm weather heading our way. Which always presents a dressing dilemma.  How do we still stay cool and yet not look too summery?

My inspiration for today's post came from an article "Mr. Shop This" clipped for me. It was an interview with style guru, Tim Gunn. This is what he had to say about White after Labor Day.

Is it okay to wear white after Labor Day?

“Oh absolutely! All those rules need to go away. All of them, absolutely. In fact, winter white is stunning, it really is.”

What are some tips for wearing white after Labor Day?

“Don’t wear it with a crop top. I mean you can pair it with anything that’s appropriate. When I say appropriate, weather appropriate, it’s occasion appropriate and it’s age appropriate. I love white trench coats, they’re gorgeous.”  "I think that there’s nothing that a woman looks better in than a crisp white top, stunning."

My Two Cents

The notion that we should all banish our white pieces to the back of the closet, after any certain date, is archaic.  I also think that Linen, seersucker and lightweight cotton are  really Summer fabrics.  Unless we are experiencing a heat wave, Fall begs for heavier fabrics with a little more texture.  And finally, I'm with Tim. Don't be afraid to break the rules!
