Foodie Friday: Let's Feed & Help Hurricane Dorian Victims!

We interrupt our weekly edition of Foodie Friday for an urgent public service announcement. I haven't eaten normally following surgery for the past ten days, and that hasn't been fun. But my inconvenience doesn't begin to match the horror that the victims of Hurricane Dorian are enduring in The Bahamas and the US South Eastern states. Posting pretty pics of gourmet food, just didn't feel right to me. Instead, I will share a few ways that you and I can help these fellow human beings today. The following organizations spoke to me.

TV personality and skinny girl cocktail connoisseur, Bethenny Frankel, is not just a NYC housewife, she's an mother, entrepreneur, and CEO with a big heart."Bethenny Frankel’s #bstrong program is a disaster relief initiative that provides real time emergency assistance to individuals and their families in crisis. Their mission is to empower people struck with tragedy by providing gift cards, emergency aid, food and shelter to disaster victims.

#RedCrossers do amazing things. Jenelle is on her way to join members of the#Bahamas  Red Cross as one of the first @ifrc team members on the ground. There, she’ll help bring to light the humanitarian needs of those who faced #HurricaneDorian. I think it has been proven that this organization is a trustworthy one. They are seeking both blood and financial donations.

I love this organization. About ten years ago, chef José Andrés Founder, World Central Kitchen, and his wife, Patricia had a dream. "They envisioned an organization that would create smart solutions to hunger and poverty, and for many years we saw an amazing impact through our clean cookstoves initiative, culinary training programs, and social enterprise ventures that empower communities and strengthen economies." But last year they became "Food First Responders" in Puerto Rico.  Chef José and his team were in Nassau even before the hurricane hit. They know the power of a hot meal.

Team Rubicon Disaster Response is a nonprofit disaster relief organization that is composed of military veterans and first responders that help rebuild houses, clean up debris, and mobilize large groups of volunteers. Ahead of Hurricane Dorian, they assisted the Bahamas by boarding up windows and putting down sandbags. Now, they're helping with the clean up and rebuilding phase. Donating to their cause can help them fix things faster. Learn more & Donate HERE
