Splurge Worthy: Just Six Things

( Via Vogue )

I always say that you can find great style at all price points. Quality is another subject.....and often the price of an item reflects the quality. Today I share a few things that I truly feel are worth the splurge.

Wolford Hosiery
I have been wearing this brand for years. Yes, they are expensive, but they simply are the best. Nothing else compares in comfort, look, or durability. With a pedicured foot, a pair will last you all season. If you are a nude leg girl, they have the best selection of nude shades to match every skintone. My favorite styles are Velvet Deluxe and Satin Opaque. I love the sheen and leg lengthening look of the Satin Opaques!

A Black Cashmere Turtleneck
Turtlenecks have been around the fashion block forever, and they are on trend again this Fall. They are appropriate for both day and evening. I love any style and color cashmere sweater, but a black one will work with everything. You will always feel well dressed in cashmere. If you haven't had one yet, it's time to treat yourself. Just make sure your selection is at least 2-ply. Neiman's Cashmere Collection Modern Turtleneck is perfection!

Dior Show Mascara
Everyone has their favorite mascara, and many like drugstore brands, because of the value. In my opinion, Dior Show is the best. It never clumps, stays on all day, and does not flake off under the eyes. The brush is "the thing." It's bigger and thicker than most wands, so it distributes the mascara more thoroughly each pass thru your lashes. Special note.....I prefer the regular Dior Show to the Waterproof. In this case, I add a topcoat of Bare Minerals Lock and Coated Waterproof Last Topcoat. It's Terrific. You can get both items at

A Classic White Cotton Shirt
The classic white shirt can take you anywhere. It always works with black trousers or a black pencil skirt too. Here's a chic take on a classic. It's modern and feminine with a contemporary and flattering silhouette. You will find the pretty pintucks front and back, along with a peplum hem. It's a great shirt that will take you from work to weekend for less than $100.

A Good Black Dress Coat
If you have a good basic black coat, you can go anywhere. Puffer Jackets are on trend this season, but you can't really wear one "everywhere." If you really want a coat of quality, it seems that $500 is about the magic number, but it can be done for less, just don't expect any cashmere. This Cinzia Rocca coat is a good example of a dress coat. It has a touch of cashmere for softness, sleek lines, and a great funnel collar.

A Statement Belt
You don't see a "fancy belt" on too many lists, but my own belts are my "go to" accessories. A belt like this Michael Kors chain link style will elevate anything...even denim. It never goes out of style ( I have had mine for over 20 years ) It works with dresses, blouses, sweaters, and looks great peeking out of a jacket....just everything. Buying this type of belt a bit larger is advised, then you can wear it slung low on the hips or at the waist.
