Foodie Friday: Thanksgiving Dinner Part 1: Sensational Sides

I don't know how this happened, but there are only 3 Fridays before Thanksgiving, including today. For me, cooking is love, and I adore putting new twists on traditional fare. This post is the start of a three week Foodie Friday "Thanksgiving Dinner" series. I begin with "Side Dishes," because aren't they really what we all love? Next Friday, will feature "Turkey and Gravy" recipes, and fabulous dessert ideas will round up the series.  Get ready to be inspired.

Roasted Sweet Potato Soup With Maple Glazed Walnuts
I venture to guess that many of us skip the soup or salad course for Thanksgiving. But why not try it this year? I think a soup course, especially one this good, will make your guests feel very special!
Best Friends For Frosting

Pumpkin Flatbread With Gruyere
{Gluten Free}
Here's an appetizer that your guests with tummy troubles can enjoy, but so will the rest of the crowd. Crispy fried sage adds the perfect savory touch!

Silver Palate's Thanksgiving Potatoes
Honestly, these potatoes look a bit plain for my taste, but I have included them in this post for two reasons. 1) like my own mashed potatoes, this recipe includes 3 types of dairy, sour cream, cream cheese, and butter. And 2) they call for nutmeg, which I never have thought of! I hear that these potatoes have a cult following. So do mine. :)

OXO Potato Ricer
I do pretty well with my potato masher, and would never think of using a beater on the potatoes, but this is suppose to be great. I think we all need one.
Sur La Table

Butternut Squash And Wild Mushroom Stuffing
I was excited to find this brand new recipe at HBH today. It's so gorgeous and includes mushrooms, which I think gives such an earthiness to stuffing.
Half Baked Harvest

Balsamic Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Ina Garten's recipe is almost full proof. I make it often with the addition of adding thinly sliced fresh garlic. I mean, how can one eat brussels without garlic?  This is not the pic attached to the recipe, but it is exactly how my sprouts look when I make this dish. The image is from Alexandra Cooks.

Savory Stuffing With Pears
The complimentary flavors of pancetta, fennel, pears and cranberries create a very unique dish.

As they say, "this is what I'm talking about." There are so many creative things you can do with potatoes, I just don't understand the plain variety.

Sweet Potato & Apple Gratin
If you can convince your family that sweet potatoes are delicious, even without the marshmallows, this is a great recipe. Gingersnaps add the sweetness.

Crispy Sauteed Green Beans With Pumpkin Seeds, Hemp Seeds & Lemon
I know that "green been casserole" is a staple on many tables.  I just couldn't serve a guest anything with all of the preservatives a can of soup has. Elevate your beans with this healthy and beautiful dish
Melangery

Chambord Cranberry Sauce
Like a good outfit, Cranberry Sauce is the key accessory to the entire Thanksgiving meal. Nothing tastes right without it. This recipe couldn't be any easier. The Chambord really takes this sauce to a gourmet level!

Joseph Joseph 100 Collection 5-Pc. Steel Index Chopping Board Set
With all of that chopping going on in the kitchen, you better be prepared. This is a stylish set.

Stuffing In A Bundt Pan
Now why didn't I think of this?  Isn't this just the best and most attractive way to serve stuffing? The author states that you can use any recipe you wish. Hers is pretty basic with fresh sage. I would fill the middle with fresh herbs.

Michael Aram Gold Orchid Casserole Dish
Because it is all about the presentation!
Neiman Marcus

Sweet Potatoes With Stilton And Walnuts
Another sweet and savory recipe that promises to change things up this year. Stilton is assertive, and that is why I like it, but your favorite cheese can be substituted. Feta would work!
Bon Appetit

Pomegranate Roasted Carrots
Add some color to the table with rainbow carrots, pomegranate molasses, and creamy feta. Sure to be a family favorite!

Fresh Soil Dipped Wooden Spoons
Alright, I need these. Don't you just love tools that are as good looking as they are functional?
