Foodie Friday: Recipes For What's In Season Now

A great dish begins with the freshest ingredients. Farmers Market to your Table is the theme today. Mr. Shop This and I took a walk to a local green market last weekend. It was great fun walking down the middle of the street and shopping the different booths. My fave find was garlic chives, which I used in a Chimichurri sauce. I loved getting my hands a little dirty and experiencing all of the herbaceous aromas.  I highly recommend that you try it this weekend.  Here's some inspiration.

Fresh Peach and Corn Salsa
What a beautiful dish! Anyone can serve salsa. I make it often and always fresh from scratch. This recipe is so special because of the sweet and savory ingredients. I just love blending those two, don't you?  Great for dipping but also lovely served as a finishing touch on fish or meat.

Corn Soup With Avocado and Lime
There are many recipes for chilled Summer soups, but this one is warm. And I don't mind that. The ingredients start with vine ripened tomatoes. The fresh lime will add a brightness to this dish.

Corn & Cotija Cheese Dip
If your muse of the moment is fresh sweet corn, this dip is for you. The ingredients are simple, as always: fresh corn, shallot, garlic, light cream cheese, sour cream (or Greek yogurt) and Mexican cotija cheese.

Grilled Bread Salad With Sweet Peppers And Onions
A grilled version of Panzanella. In fact everything in this recipe is grilled. How perfect is that? Such colors!

Dressed with an JalapenoVinaigrette, this salad features a little spice complimented with sweetness. Please take note how the tangerine is sliced.

Stuffed Zucchini Boats With Spicy Cilantro Cream
This recipe is for my sister, who loves zucchini so much that she grows it, and on a good year they are huge! She also loves the spice of good Mexican food. Isn't this one appealing dish? All I can say is ole!

Chilled Persian Yogurt Soup
I just had to share this recipe, as it is so unique. The recipe includes fresh mint, dill, and chives, which I found all three at my local farmers Market.  I just want to dip in with that grilled bread.

Strawberry Rhubarb Meringue Tartlets
Consider this your basic Strawberry Rhubarb Pie with a twist. My Mother use to make this pie, but as good as it was, it never looked like this. Of course the difference is the pillow of meringue and several tarts instead of one pie. YUM!

Farm-Fresh Sweet Pea Cocktail

Strawberries and Angel Food Ice Cream
There is no better Summer treat than ice cream. I grew up sitting on the crank style ice cream maker. My Mother made coconut, peach, strawberry, vanilla and blueberry ice cream, but none of them featured Angel Food cake! Now we all can have our ice cream and eat our cake, too.
A Beautiful Mess

Herbs on the Half Shell
Last weekend while Mr. Shop This and I visited the Farmer's Market, we saw so many heavenly herb plants. They were so inexpensive! many of my favorite Summer recipes call for fresh herbs. I'm thinking why not grow your own? I found this wonderful idea for potting the herbs. Read all about it at

Who needs shortcake when you can have this? The author of the recipe swears this is not difficult. I actually love to make crepes. They are easy with my crepe maker.
